School & College Visits

What I can offer

Powerpoint Presentation

Over recent months I have been offering a Powerpoint presentation, going into a little of my own background and training at art school, followed by the detailed process of how a children’s book comes together, from the illustrator’s point of view. I have based my presentation on the development of one of my recent picture books from the initial approach by the publisher to publication.

I would also bring some of the materials I use as well as a folio containing the different stages of the process in paper form.

I offer demonstrations of some of the techniques I use when illustrating books. I use the following media: Water colour inks in combination with either pencil crayon and chalks, acrylic or gouache paint.

Q & As

I am more than happy to take questions from the audience.

Other topics

I can talk about many aspects of illustration and can tailor my talk for your event if you let me know your specific requirements.

Signed books and prints

I have copies of my books and prints to sell at events. Members of the audience often want me to sign books for themselves or their loved ones.

If you would like to find out more or are interested in arranging a visit, please email me at

If possible please include the following in your enquiry

  • If possible please include the following in your enquiry
  • The name and address of your organisation – with a website link if possible.
  • The address of the venue
  • The name and address of your organisation – with a website link if possible.
  • The address of the venue – if different from the address above.
  • The proposed date and time for your event.
  • The nature of the event you are putting on.
  • The average age of the audience.
  • The number of people likely to attend.
  • How long the event would last from my arrival to departure.
  • Particular aspects of my work that you would like covered.
  • Whether there would be a technical person present to be responsible for the equipment.
  • What you normally pay as a fee for this sort of an event.
  • Whether you would like me to bring copies of my books and prints to sign.

It would also be very helpful to hear about the equipment you will have at the venue ie:

  • Laptop with Powerpoint.
  • Projector and screen compatible with the laptop.
  • Sound system, with mic – if the size of the room warrants it.
  • Internet connection – useful for showing website.
  • I work on a desktop (not an easel), so if you would like a demonstration and the audience will be larger that ten, it would be necessary to have a camera that will project my hands as I work. However, if the group is up to ten, then people can cluster round to see.

Here are my Standard Requirements with further information including a price guide. These are also sent out once a booking is confirmed.

Many thanks ~ Amanda

Feedback ~ ‘Thank you for all your hard work in preparing this visit, it went really well.  I think the students got a lot from it and were able to see clearly how your work had developed from initial ideas, development, through to final production of the book, which was really helpful.’
